About Our Firm
Credible, capable, experienced employment lawyers.
At Barritt Smith Miner LLP, we practice only labor and employment law. We bring more than 50 years of combined experience prosecuting and defending litigated disputes in many areas, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, unpaid wages, breach of employment contracts, and violations of trade secret laws. We’ve done so in state courts, federal courts, and government agencies in California and around the United States. We offer counsel regarding these matters as well.
We make our clients’ interests our interests. We recognize that we cannot claim to represent those interests without understanding our clients and their goals in any particular legal matter. While some firms approach every case the same way, we understand that all our clients’ cases and interests are unique. So, we make our clients’ individual interests and objectives our main focus. We aim to use our expertise to achieve outcomes that exceed our clients’ expectations.
We are efficient. Over the years, we have become effective in eliminating unnecessary work and keeping our eyes on the fastest and most cost-effective ways to achieve our clients’ end goals.
With our employee clients, we generally enter into contingency fee arrangements that are competitive (and common) in the marketplace.
We understand that people need excellent legal service at reasonable rates. That is why our hourly rates for defending and counseling employers are generally significantly lower than our competitors’ rates. We maintain these rates by maintaining low overhead, working efficiently, and cutting out unnecessary motion practice, unproductive depositions, meetings, and travel.
We focus on clients—not just cases. We believe and expect our clients to refer us to others and/or use our services repeatedly if we serve them well. So, our client’s trust and satisfaction with our work is important to us from the beginning to end of our representation.
Alternative Fee Arrangements:
Because each client comes to us with different circumstances, we remain flexible with regard to fee arrangements. For example, in some cases we find a hybrid fee arrangement to be the most acceptable (a combination of a contingent fee and hourly rate). In other cases, we may provide a specific service for a flat fee. We are always willing to discuss alternative fee arrangements and invite our clients to suggest one when they believe it would be beneficial.
