PRACTICE SUMMARY
Overview
Perry G. Smith is an employment litigation attorney. He has prevailed as the lead attorney for employees in jury and bench trials and has prevailed multiple times at the court of appeal. Mr. Smith may be the only attorney in California to have obtained a reversal of the same trial court three different times in the same case when all three appeals were reviewed for an abuse of discretion.
Employee Representation
Mr. Smith practices
in the area of employment litigation. Although Mr. Smith
began his career only defending employers, including some of the
largest employers in the United States, the majority of his practice
is now spent representing employees in lawsuits for wrongful termination,
discrimination of all kinds, whistleblower retaliation, unpaid
wages and other claims. Mr. Smith’s training at a law firm
known for its high quality work and his insight into defense strategies,
allows him an advantage
over many other lawyers in representing employees.
Defending Employers
Mr. Smith continues to represent select employers in employment-related
matters and has obtained remarkable results for those employers,
including dismissals with minimal fees and very low-dollar settlements.
Education
Mr. Smith received his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University
of Georgia School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor of
the Georgia Law Review and was the recipient of the Newell Edenfield
scholarship for ranking in the top 10% of his first year class.
Mr. Smith received his B.A. from Brigham Young University.

Mr. Smith's opinions on employment law issues have been sought by National Public Radio (“NPR”)and the television show, TMZ, among other media outlets. Mr. Smith
has lectured on employment law subjects including discrimination
and harassment, employee privacy issues, wage and hour law and
wrongful termination, among other topics. Mr. Smith has also written
articles on employment law issues for various publications.
Awards & Recognition
Mr. Smith has been named a “Rising Star” in the Southern
California legal community by his peers on six separate occasions.

Before forming Barritt Smith LLP, Mr. Smith was an attorney in
the Labor and Employment Law Department of Payne & Fears LLP
in Irvine, California.
Personal
During his off time, Mr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife and their three dogs and fostering dogs in transition after rescue. Mr. Smith also serves on the Board of Directors for the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, CA, which serves meals to several hundred needy Orange County residents per day. Additionally, Perry enjoys songwriting and, in 2008, wrote a song that placed in the top 10 of the American Idol Songwriter contest. Recently, he collaborated with the lead singer of Quietdrive and the result is the song "Picture of Me" on Quietdrive's latest labum, "Up or Down."
